ABOUT

Strawberry Aqua writes and produces upbeat, fun synth pop music built around catchy hooks and choruses featuring bright synths and a heavy bass. Their songs have been described as “music you can listen to when you’re both happy or sad, while somehow being the perfect song for that moment.” Their influences include 80’s music and CHVRCHES, Charli XCX, Purity Ring, and Kygo.

The two members of Strawberry Aqua, Becca Rogers and Marion Birdsall, met in elementary school in Tucson, Arizona and bonded over a shared love of making YouTube videos, sneaking into pop punk concerts, and writing pop music. After high school, they went their separate ways, and lost touch for 7 years. Shortly before the pandemic, they caught up over text messages and discovered they were both still passionate about songwriting. During COVID-19, it quickly became an outlet for each of them. Their first song together was written in a day, and they found themselves in a studio two weeks later: Marion in LA and Becca in DC. Together they co-created their first song while having not actually seen each other in person since high school. The process was so enjoyable for the two of them that they knew they had to make more. With no intentions or expectations, they started writing and recording. Two bicoastal reunions and over a dozen songs later, they’re releasing their first single, ‘Last Dance.’

Becca was born in Tucson, AZ and now resides in Washington, D.C. She began composing music in Garageband when she was 13 years old. In college, she pursued a neuroscience degree, where she explored memory consolidation through music. As a sophomore, Becca took a class called “Technology Through Music” where she learned Logic. Within a couple months, she won a production contest, and her piece was featured as the introduction to a Jazz concert in 2014. She transferred to a new university where she interned in a recording studio and won a jingle production contest. In 2021, she produced the theme song for a talk show called “Heather After Dark.”

Marion is from a little bit of everywhere: San Diego, Durango, Naples, Tucson, New York, and now Los Angeles. She found herself on stage at 8 when her mom enrolled her in community theater. Acting and music have always been a passion of hers. When she was 13 she went to an acting camp called Camp Electric Youth where she learned songwriting techniques with 80s pop star Debbie Gibson. In 8th grade she wrote a Christmas song and managed to get it played on the local radio station. She graduated from NYU with a BFA in acting and producing. She’s currently pursuing her acting career in LA and recently started her own online vintage shop.

Their debut single, ‘Last Dance’ is a synth pop song about giving someone a second chance. The song features dreamy synths, a funky bass, and vocals by Marion. ‘Last Dance’ will be released in October, 2021. Becca and Marion are currently working on their EP which will be released in 2022. They intend to release a fully female-produced EP in the future and encourage other women to break into music production.
